Problem? What problem?

Quite honestly, before we moved out of the States, we seldom had chocolate chips in the freezer. Don't misunderstand, there was most definitely chocolate in the house, but not usually in that form. For no particular reason. Once we got to Uruguay, though, where you cannot get chocolate chips, we suddenly wanted them ALL the time. So when Z went back last September for his brother's wedding, he brought back 3 of the big Nestle bags from Costco. In January, coming back from my sister's wedding, we brought 2 more back. Then we ran out and I about went crazy!!! Luckily my wonderful mother-in-law hooked us up, and sent us 3 bags, along with some other fun goodies. We promised ourselves we'd go easy on them, but it didn't take long to realize we might have a problem:

Setting: Our house. Zachariah watching me come to the table where our healthy and yummy homemade baked falafel and baba ganoush (roasted eggplant spread, also healthy and yummy) is waiting for us.

Zachariah: What's in your hand?
Me, guiltily opening hand: ...Chocolate chips.
Zachariah, gesturing at healthy and yummy homemade food: Um..we're about to eat.
Me: I know.
Zachariah: Give me some!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setting: Our backyard. Babies are in bed and we're heading out for our nightly hackysack practice. Don't laugh -- it's fun and gets us moving more and we're getting better. Zachariah is already out there hacky-ing away as I come out.

Zachariah: What were you doing?
Me: Nothing. Well, getting something.
Zachariah: Chocolate chips?
Me: (Thinking: Dang! He's a good guesser! Or he just knows me.) ...Yeah.
Zachariah: Give me some!
We then proceed to hackysack, while eating our chocolate chips.

And although the above examples are about me, with Z merely mooching, I can pinky-promise you that he has his fair share of moments. Listen to this: When the kiddos' high-chairs finally arrived and they started actually eating in the kitchen, Zachariah would always snack on chocolate chips right in front of them at dinner-time. Can you believe it?? Naughty... But he always called them "Daddy Beans."

"Oh," he'd say, as they munched their steamed broccoli, "Daddy better have some Daddy Beans!" But they're smart, they wised up to their deceptive daddy and now have ears fine-tuned to the freezer door.

Anyway, last week we took drastic steps and moved the little bits of heaven out to the quincho freezer, so they were at least a little farther away. And I'm happy to report that I haven't had a chocolate chip since then. Really that's just because I'm lazy, but whatever works.

(Unfortunately, I can almost guarantee you that now that I've been thinking about them for as long as it's taken me to write this post, I'll probably be making a trip out to the quincho. Also, Z just flew to VA to close on selling our house (sob!) and chocolate chips are on his list, so we'll be replenished soon. In fact...I should eat the older ones so we have plenty of room for the fresh ones... Obviously.)

I love it. My mom took to hiding the chocolate chips because I always ate them...how else is a girl to get her chocolate fix? I must say that I go though them fast though.

Our choc chip stash sits right in the pantry cupboard in a GALLON size jar. It is RARELY ever allowed to go empty. I placate myself by thinking...well everyone else gets to eat the cookies...and since I'm not supposed to eat wheat products...I'll just eat a handful of these melt in your mouth choc chips! They are soooo comforting don't you think? I love popping one in my mouth and letting my tongue heat it up and feel it melt and then squishing it up to the roof of my mouth and feel the creaminess. I don't understand those who profess to not like chocolate.

What problem, indeed, when there are chocolate chips around there are no problems :0) I love the dialogues! Those babies are getting so big and as cute as penguins at Christmas time with little scarves and tiny Tim hats, well cuter than that even. Actually, they are cuter than that onereally sweet and very cute baby penguin that the Chipettes return to his antarctic home in the big balloon race around the world, you know, the one Brittany thought Eleanor wanted to eat, but really she was just saving him. Right after they charmed the snakes with there rock'n'roll. "Honey, Honey...give me...a clue, tell me what I need to do... to get," I don't really remember too much more of the words, but Janet had some nice moves. Anway, the point is Bran and Nuala are super cute!

Yes I totally think you should eat all the 'daddy beans' before Z gets back with more, just think, because you had to walk further to get them you burned more calories and thus can eat more guilt free!!!!!!!

Also I am totally lost on what Erin was saying, was she talking in code or something? I do get the part of the twins being super cute, I love the beach pictures to the right (looks like Bran will need a haircut soon!).

Now go, eat some 'daddy beans'!:)

Looks like we could all form a support group! We can have refreshments (chocolate chips, hee hee) at every meeting...

And, ha! Erin sometimes speaks in Erin-ese, so your confusion is understandable... j/k, Erin ;) She's talking about one of the awesomest movies ever, The Chipmunk Adventure!! We used to watch that ALL the time when we were kids. Seriously, great movie, great songs...ya gotta watch it!

And heck no! Bran's not getting another haircut anytime soon. Oh, the torture! (for both of us) Well, I guess I can always try some of the hints, like wait till he's asleep or have Z hold him nice and tight.

(And a bag of CC has relocated to the kitchen freezer...those extra steps totally equal it out...)

Never knew chocolate chips were so popular...I get by just fine without them. But I do remember occasionally sneaking some out of the freezer growing up...they always seemed to disappear pretty quickly...I think it's obvious now that it was you, Fiona, eating most of them. Even though I was always blamed for such things.

Hi there.....we love all the beach pics...the babies are having a lot of fun. They are lucky to have such outdoorsy parents...who are also having a lot of fun. In most of the pics, their hair looks about the same colour, but sometimes Bran's looks a bit darker than Nuala's. I am impressed that they didn't fall off the board...or did they sometimes? (in pics that aren't posted...) So glad you did find the beach even if it was a bit late in the season.
The chocolate chip saga is wonderful! Gary, I usually blamed Dad for the disappearance of the little morsels (and I think I'm right)...not but, I am sure he had help too....
love you all, Mom (and Dad too) xox

I would have guessed Erin for the disappearing chocolate chips...she's the one that taught me to pour milk over frozen chocolate chips and eat it with a spoon...

I like to melt the cc and dip cashews and then store them hidden away in the freezer. I like to sneak that. However, I have not done that in a while, because Jacob likes it too. I wonder if it has been long enough to do that again...perhaps I can do that Thursday when he is off teaching drum line. We'll have to see about that.
