While they were (not) sleeping

I know, I know. It's a rite of passage for parents to fall victim to the mischiefs of their little ones when they're supposed to be asleep. And THANK GOODNESS the twins' mischiefs have not included poop all over the room, like some other rascally twins we know, haha!! ...at least not yet...eesh... We have opened the locked door to stark-naked babies, but only as pee diaper escapees...again, THANK GOODNESS. What does happen, is just the typical F5-tornado-has-swept-through-and-anything-not-bolted-down-is-now-ripped-apart-and-flung-60-miles-away-and-was-that-a-cow-I-just-heard-flying-past-as-it-was-sucked-through-the-vortex? chaos. Board books are delicately peeled apart, like the twins were removing wallpaper. So what do we do? Safely pile everything we want to keep out of their reach in the exact center of their dresser. Despite being in the 90+ percentiles for height, they still can't reach the middle. YES! But no. This is what I walked in on the other morning (and a naked Nuala, as well, but no pics of that...):

I just don't know how he got up there! I mean, I KNOW how he got up there, he obviously climbed. His flying skills aren't that great yet (trust me, they are tested regularly), and Nuala has a good shoving arm but still hasn't perfected an actual Bran-toss of this height. We already took out the bottom drawer, because a couple of kids kept standing in it, so somehow Bran climbed into the 2nd drawer and up on the top. It just seems, um...I don't know, a bit awkward of a climb for a little guy. We think he must've used a heel hook, that is a very effective climbing technique...

He was mighty pleased with himself!! And I fear running for the camera and taking 2 million pictures of whatever rascaliness is going on only serves as positive reinforcement...but I just can't resist! We finally lowered the side of Bran's crib, so he can climb in and out more easily and safely. Nuala's crib is stubborn, so she still slithers out from up high, no choice there, and she can't get back in, but eh. She'll survive. Anyway, Bran NEVER (at least when we're around) climbs out the lowered side. Always up and over the high side. Funny boy.

And this is naptime. They were both nap dodgers, just playing in their room, and when I went to check again, poor Bran was conked out on the floor, and there was his sweet sis, lying on top of him, poking his buttons, yanking down his pants, basically being a pain in the rear. But he didn't care. He's a guy. He was OUT of it. I thought it was funny, though. Of course, I transferred him to the crib, and of COURSE, he woke up and decided the 20 minutes on the floor was nap enough. Grrrr....again, and I say this often...good thing they're so dang cute!

Wow. What destruction your kiddos cause. Good thing they are almost two. Hopefully they will grow out of this stage quickly. I would ask if you have them clean it up, but knowing who your mom is, I am 99 percent certain of the answer.

Welcome to my world! :-) I'm glad you haven't had to deal with the poop like someone I know has. ;-/
Bran looks so pleased with himself.
Gavyn is still pulling these stunts. Hopefully your children will outgrown all this soon, to save your sanity.
Oh and 1 napping on the floor while the other is attacking is something we deal with too.
Your twins sound completely normal to me. :-D

Such cute pictures! I'm way impressed with Bran's climbing skills...poor guy, how dare he fall asleep when Nuala was still wanting to play with him!

Wow, only 2 and he has already mastered the heel hook! You are going to have to find some tiny harnesses soon (although I am sure that has already crossed Zac's mind since he is always looking for new climbing buddies and an excuse to buy something from REI!) haha. At any rate, at least they are both good at it and haven't taken any nasty falls (knock on wood). Great post!

Kids have amazing abilities, wait the best is yet to come. Just embrace it and take loads of pictures, someday, when they have kids of their own, they may be helpful when they are trying to figure out what to do with their own (not that any parent would want to use it against their own perfect children).

If I remember right zac had to be leashed to his bed because he would wander or take things apart with a butter knife when he was supposed to be napping. Hmm like our parents say what we did comes back to haunt us but I feel hope things get better for you!!

That's really funny! Maria painted her crib with poop once. She also ate a cowpie.

That's pretty scary! Nothing like that EVER happens in our house. What kind of parents are you? Just kidding!!!

I love that you posted this, because it makes me feel better about the rampages the boys go on when we lovingly lock them in their rooms for naps/bed. I love that you too know the meaning of a peeled apart board book/clothes ripped out of drawers/anything within reach destroyed. We finally took out EVERYTHING that could possibly be fun, including light bulbs so that no lights can be switched on and off. They still find ways to mass destroy. Ahh, the joys of twins :) We wouldn't trade it for anything. Love you!
