The phone is not my friend

At least here. I have a heckuva time understanding Spanish on the phone. I dread answering it, but I perversely look forward to it, because when I do have a decent conversation, I am insanely proud of myself. It's so hard for me to understand someone speaking Spanish on the phone, especially with a twin or two ruckus-ing in the background, and especially with an Uruguayan accent. It is a fact (at least in our opinion and many of our friends' opinions, haha ;) that the accents down here in Arg/Uruguay are especially difficult. It's such a relief to talk to someone from farther north, like when we went to Peru...oh the clarity of speech!

Anyway, so I was talking to this guy on the phone today who was interested in buying Z's co-worker's car. The co-worker had to hightail it back to the States, and left Z with the privilege of selling his wheels. I talked to this guy, Juan, yesterday, then a couple of times today, and all conversations went fairly well. The last time he called today, though, was right before we went on a bike ride, and Nuala was beside me complaining about something, so already I was handicapped. I didn't recognize his voice, and after he rattled off his opening sentence, I had no clue what he was after. So I said, "Otra vez?" meaning "again?" as in "say it again?" and I probably sounded a teeny bit exasperated. When he said, "" instead of repeating himself, I finally realized who it was and that he'd asked to speak to Señor Rollins. It was poor Juan, and he thought I was asking him "you want to talk to him AGAIN?" I probably sounded like the rudest wife ever. Oh well... I take comfort in the fact that he's a guy and if Z's assessment of guys is right on, Juan not only took no offense, but probably doesn't even remember that he spoke to me...

On a GREAT note, we got Season 4 of The Office today!!! We're so excited!! We resisted any of the ways we could watch it online so we could fully enjoy it on the "big screen." We thought it wouldn't be out till closer to Christmas, but our fellow addicts Kurt and Sylvia pre-ordered it and alerted Z to the fact that we could finally get our fix...thanks, guys!

Lol, Fiona, poor Juan...if it makes you feel any better, I make little faux pas' all the time on the phone, even in english. After I hang up I always think whoever I was talking to probably thinks I'm so dumb, or rude, or whatever...I have to make myself feel better by pretending they didn't notice...We're jealous that you got season four already! We just saw it at Target today, and wanted it. It's a pretty awkward season, and the finale is great! Enjoy!

Yeah it can be rough with no visuals. I have learned this telling 21, 5 year olds what to do when about half or more have no idea what you are saying.

I wouldn't worry about it either! Guys don't remember anything!
Yea for the office!!! I can't wait to get #4!

LOL! Yeah, that's C's assessment of most guys, too. Besides, being a rude wife isn't the worst thing in the world. Plus, you'll never see Juan again...right? ;o) Enjoy "The Office"! :o)

BTW, the new profile pics of B and N are soooo cute! Where did you get those done? I love, love, love the one of Nuala dancing and Bran looks like an adorable little James Dean! I just want to snuggle them both!

I know what you mean about the phone. My trainer made me make all phone calls from day one...it really did help comprehension though. I also really like the new kiddo pictures, and can I just say how funny I think it is that you have a bow on Nuala.

Funny as in ironic, not goofy.

I have the hardest time talking to some people on the phone. We don't usually have people wanting to speak to us in another language, but people do call at some challenging times -Like when I am making dinner, holding one child, while another one whines and another one is yelling from the bathroom, "Mooooommmy! I neeeeeed youuu!". Many times I have had to be pretty short with my father in law because of this...
Enjoy "The Office!" We are waiting for the next season to start up here. It is the only sitcom we watch!

yeah, where? Dad thinks it was in a photo studio, and...though they look quite professional...I think they were just outside at Zac's parent's house (?) They are absolutely beautiful.... the BIG grin on Nuala's facce is priceless! Bran is SO handsome too... I can't quit lookin' at them .... sigh, sigh, wish I could see them more often... and hold them, and hug them... love you all... xox

Aw, thanks for liking the new pics of B&N...of course, how could you NOT like them?! ;) I wish we could say we did indeed take them ourselves in front of Z's folks' house, but no. Maria let us squeeze in a couple of shots at the professional place they go to while we were there. We were doing an extremely-exhausting-yet-entertaining shoot with all 11 grandkids, and then Maria was getting individuals of her kids, and we did some of our two, also. Yeah, Nuala with a bow is not something you see everyday! It had to be adjusted/replaced often.

I hate speaking a foreign language on the phone!!! The guy probably really didn't think anything of it after he got off the phone- though who knows, maybe he has a blog and there's a spanish rendition of this story from his point of view. and great new pics of the kids!
