It was the most horrible feeling, watching something happen to my child and knowing she was hurt. I'm also so glad that we have the priesthood in our home, and the blessing that Z gave her comforted me probably more than her, though she calmed down a lot while he was giving it to her. I know, I know...just a flattened finger, and probably not the worst injury we'll face, and actually, I'm a little surprised that we haven't been to the ER yet with one of these rascals, but I'm okay if we never experience that! We've had fingers smashed in doors and cupboards before, but never when it has completely shut. CLICK. Oooooh, I shudder just replaying that...
We went to a playgroup today, and one of the first questions was, "Who did she get in a fight with?" My poor girl still has her black eye, and her taped and splinted fingers just added to the image...nice. Off-topic, but it was a very international playgroup today. Me (US), another Fiona (the Netherlands), Nina (Germany), Shannon (Canada), and Rafael (Ecuador, his wife works for the British embassy). Just kinda cool.
If you ask her about it, she explains like so: "Owie, dedo ('finger' in Span.), doh (door), Ban (Bran)." Sometimes in different orders, but still. So, here's hopin' that a smushed finger is the worst we'll face with these two. Heh. What are the chances of THAT...

Poor thing. I a little about the feeling you get because I have watched Lisa really stress when Maylee and Spencer get hurt or sick. Thanks a ton for the comments on my blog.
I've done that to Jonah I think...Maybe it was Jack...Maybe both, but not completely shut.
The worst we've had so far is Jonah eating a penny. This doesn't sound that bad on the surface, but it is. Apparently pennies are coated with something that is really really bad, so it has to come out. So it is the job of the parent to verify it came out...Julie and I split the job, but I found the penny. Still have it. Most expensive penny ever!!!
So if this is the worst that happens consider yourself really lucky. I remember how many times I went to the ER and am prepared for the same with our kids.
Poor little Nuala...remember when you slammed a door on a sibling, Fiona?
Poor Nuala, she seems to have handled it well. I remember Gary losing a toe nail from an encounter with a restroom door in Target when he was four. No ER, but some blood and crying, and a small scoulding from Mom, directed at the poor individual who didn't pay attention when opening the door (me). Love to all. Dad and Mom
I'm so sorry...for you AND for Nuala. Poor girls! What were the boys' reactions? I'm glad she's doing better now. She's a tough girl!
Poor Nuala! With her black eye, she's looking pretty beat up. It is horrible when our little one's get hurt like that. Jonah had an accident like this recently. His fingernail is just growing back...
That was just your head, Gary, no big deal...you seem to have survived! Hmmm, could I be semi-responsible, though, for some of your more "unique" traits?? ;)
Bran seemed very sympathetic to poor Nuala, and Z helped take good care of her. And he reassured me a LOT that her finger wasn't going to swell up and die or end up being severed inside the skin, or anything horrible like that. So, the boys did well. They pass :)
ouch! Poor thing! I hate it when your watching them fall or get hurt and you try to run to them but it all seams like its in slow motion! My Z fell off the couch and smacked his head on the floor, and now has a huge knot on his forhead! Not the first time he has smacked his haed!!
Poor Nuala, and poor YOU! I actually winced reading about it. That is so traumatic when your kids get really hurt, but even worse, WATCHING it happen!! She looks pretty tough, though. Guess she's got Bran around to protect her, too (when he isn't slamming her fingers in doors).
Poor Nuala! That sounds sooooo painful!
All that picture is missing is a leather jacket. :) Poor Nuala! I know how she feels. Molly shut the car door on my fingers when i was about 7 or 8 and she was 9 or 10 years old...then she just stood there and stared at me crying...with my HAND STILL IN THE DOOR!! Luckily my mom was on her way out to the car and she ran up and opened it.
Oooohhhh...ouch! My goodness, poor little Nuala! I hope her recovery is speedy and your trauma recedes hastily as well! Y'know, after I talked to you yesterday, I remembered that someone (Paul, I think?) did the same thing to my finger in the car door when I was 8. The same trip to Ireland where I twisted my ankle...I can empathize with Nuala's many closely spaced injuries. ;o)
OooHhh! Poor little Nuala! That would hurt sooo much! She's tough, poor Bran too though, it always feels awful when you hurt someone. Unless he didn't really know that he did it...in which case, just poor Nuala, except, he saw her crying and was touched so yes poor Bran too. There it's decided.
She looks so grown up!
Poor Nuala. :(
We had our first ER trip this weekend - you aren't missing much.
Ouch!!! That sounds so horrible!!!
I'm getting shudders reading about this.
And, your kids are growing so fast!!! Can't believe it!!
