Blame it on Nursery

Setting: Our house, 10:48ish pm, Sunday night. (Strange noise comes from kids' room)

Me: What the heck was that?!
Zac: It sounded like a hairball.

Thus began the so-far-endless (I know it's only been 2 days, but come on...it feels endless...) saga of puke, poop, and sad, listless, feverish, but very snuggly twins. Here they are watching The Chipmunk Adventure. Don't they look thrilled?

The "hairball" was Bran's 2nd round of puking, leaving a nice large pile of Shepherds Pie at one end of his crib. He'd already rolled through the quieter first round. I realized we totally need to work on chewing, as all the components of the Shepherd's Pie looked almost exactly the way they did 5 hours earlier. Since he was up and getting changed, and the bed was being changed, Nuala got up to hang out, too. As she was wandering about, whaddaya know?? Up comes her dinner. They'd also had Craisins that evening, and they were nice and plump, plunked there in the puke all over our hallway. We really, really should work on chewing. Our hallway is wood, with lots of little blocks just fitted together. Most of the blocks have rather large spaces between them. Much of the puke dripped through the cracks and is now making itself at home under our hallway floor. Zachariah comforted me with, "Don't worry, the roaches will eat it." Yeah, great.

Anyway, that night we got maybe 3-1/2 hours of sleep. It was actually rather funny. Haha. We put them both back in bed, thinking maybe they had just eaten something that didn't agree with them and that would be that. But it wasn't. 300 bedsheets, 450 sets of pjs, and 5000 wipees later, the four of us blearily emerged from Mama and Dada's bed, to face a day filled with more puke. And we only emerged when we did because Nuala did the unthinkable and threw up all over our bed and me...Okay, probably not that many sheets, pjs, and wipees, but we did do two loads of laundry during the Night of Puke, because we were running out of sheets and blankies and pjs. By yesterday evening, 5 loads total were done. All throw-up related. Wow.

So yesterday was Puke Day. Today is Diarrhea Day. I'm not sure which is better...probably diarrhea because it's not as get-everywhere messy, but good gracious my sweet angels stink!! Especially Nuala...sugar and spice, yeah right. I feel like I'm changing exploda-newborn diapers again, only much, much raunchier. Much. Heehee...after I started this post, I took a hiatus because the twins woke up. This is what they looked like, actually, when they got up: (and how mean of me is that, "hold on a sec! Let me just take a picture of you poor miserable little things..." It didn't take long, I promise.)

Anyway, I'm now getting back to this after the tykes are in bed, and I say 'hee hee' because...remember this post? When Nuala shot poo all over me when she was almost 3 weeks old? Replay it, but with Zachariah as the poor sap on the receiving end, and really stinky 20-month old diarrhea as the gift. Oh, it was funny! And very disgusting. It just got all over his pants and the floor, so I think he got off easy.

I don't know why I'm posting about this. Maybe cause it's the first MAJOR illness, with puking and fevers and diarrhea that they've had at the same time. I mean, over Christmas they each did a 24-hour thing, but different 24-hours, and now and then one would not feel very well, but they've been amazingly healthy. I'm glad they're sick at the same time, because they're both sleeping, or at least "resting" a lot. During the day, anyway. Hmmm...and I just keep going on and on. Okay, the end. They're getting better, it's all good! Even though I don't like them to be sick and miserable, I sure love how snuggly they are. It's pretty hard to get them to slow down and snuggle nowadays. They're MUCH too busy, of course. And here they are this evening, snuggling with Dad while watching YouTube on the Wii. Umm...we also read a lot of books. It wasn't all television...

Oh my gosh, that first picture of the twins...Bran looks so sad, i actually did the eyebrow-raise, big-eye, frown-impersonating 'Oh!' Poor little babies!!! And poor you guys. For real. That does not sound fun. I hope they get better soon.

And hey, you have twin toddlers pooping and barfing everywhere. You can watch as much tv as you want--no shame! :)

Poor kids! I hope they feel better soon! Thanks for posting about it though - it is nice to know that I'm not the only one who faces such "lovely" days (although I don't have double the joy that you guys have). I hope you and Z don't catch it next! I've done that - being sick while the kid(s) is(are) sick is even less fun than just having a sick kid(s)! At least parenting is never dull (even if it is very yucky sometimes)!

That sucks. Hopefully the kids feel better soon.
I hear that you are going crazy like I am waiting to see where you are going next. Hopefully we both get the ones we want and we will only be 3 hours from each other.

Shepard's Pie for dinner is wonderful, but I doubt it would be as tasty on the way back up! Well, I am glad for all of you that they are feeling better--I know that I don't function very well on 3 1/2 hours of sleep!

Wow, poor babies and F&Z, but you do have to love the snuggly part. They look so pitifully cute. I'm glad you survived :0) and they're on the mend. You can get back to chasing them all over the house, haha!

Poor guys. Sorry about the grossness too. I hope they feel better soon and that you and Z don't get sick too.

We have totally been in your shoes and know how it feels like forever. But we TOTALLY loved that they cuddled with us the entire day and slept in our arms. It felt like a once in a life time chance. Hope they recover very quickly but still cuddle a ton more.

As a Nursery Leader, I take offense to the title of this entry-"Blame it on Nursery". I can only assume that your darling children went to a nursery school class and not a church nursery class.
Hope everyone is feeling better.
