Love that chicken!

About once a week Zachariah and I head over to Popeyes for some of their spicy New Orleans fried chicken. It's not all that spicy, but they also have these red beans and rice that just hit the spot, and buttermilk biscuits that grease up your fingers...mmm...of course, eating there probably covers your caloric needs for a good three days, and you don't feel that great the morning after, but at least it tastes good! Wow. Unwisely, I just now zipped over to Popeyes' website (curses on curiosity!) to glance at their nutritional (non-nutritional?) info. Scary, but I digress.

Usually we dig up a coupon that gets us a free 2-piece meal when you buy a 3-piece meal. Last week we had such a coupon, but as an added bonus (our arteries will now clog another month sooner) each meal had an extra piece tucked in. Score! (We didn't notice till we got home, otherwise we would have let the Popeyes employees know, of course. And once they gave me plain old Cajun rice instead of the red beans and rice, so they owed me.) Anyway, at this point in my pregnancy, I can only eat one piece of chicken, my rice n' beans, and biscuit, so I saved the other two for later. The next day I eat one. The following day, I pull out my remaining piece -- a wing -- and discover something so terribly disgusting, I fear I can no longer remain a Popeye's diner. This is what I saw:

Yes, that is a small, white feather protruding from the lifeless wing I was about to consume. Gross...there is no other way to describe it. I was very worried that it would, in fact, affect my ability to go to that deliciously greasy establishment, but Zac and I ate there last night. No feathers!

And lest you think me an irresponsible, unhealthy pregnant woman, I eat tons of fruits and veggies and whole grains, etc. throughout the day. Even when I'm not pregnant. My mom raised us on a very wholesome diet. Heck, we were the kids at school eating green peppers and having alfalfa sprouts hanging out of our mouths. But, you gotta have a treat now and then. Maybe the feather meant the chicken was just really, really, really fresh. Yeah, that's it...
