Back from Texas

Well, we got back from Texas last night, where Zac was getting his driver's license. He reluctantly gave up his Washington state license so we could finally have residency in the same state...after 5 years of marriage...we've been pretty transient. Hmmm...guess we've been in VA for a few years, but it always seemed we were going to be posted out in the near future...Anyway, funny fact, his WA license had no photo. That's right, although a driver's license is often used as a photo ID, his license simply said "Valid without photo". Weird, huh?! Last time he renewed it we were in Belgium, so he renewed online or by mail or something, and they didn't have photos in the system because they had updated everything since he'd gotten his license way back when. Anyway, we had a nice few days in Texas.

We stayed with my parents in Boerne (right outside San Antonio), and visited my sister Aislinn, her husband Curtis, and kids Patrick, Maire, Aine, and Declan up in Austin. And Martha, the duck. She's very nice, lays eggs that the kids collect and eat. Sometimes Martha eats them, too, when Aislinn scrambles them up and feeds them to her. She likes them, but I don't think she really knows what they are...

Once, Declan wouldn't get out of her pool, so she got a bit possessive and started nipping at him. Unfortunately, he was naked at the time, and was nipped in a painful spot, so he's been a bit more cautious around her lately. She's really a friendly duck, and awesome at snatching up spiders zigzagging around the yard.

Anyway, it was fun being back in Texas for a bit, but now it feels like we REALLY have to get everything ready for our move. Only 5 1/2 more weeks...
