Nuala was a "fairy warrior" or a "fairy battle princess"... Bran was a knight. Big surprise, huh?!

I painted some "scruff" on his face, but he totally didn't like it, so I wiped it off. I shoulda just pretended to wipe it off, 'cause he looked so cute with it!
Zachariah... Oh, Zachariah. He was my kitty cat ('cause I'm a witch...yeah, now you get it...haha). And despite my earlier claim...he actually wasn't thrilled with that costume choice. Sigh. But he was a good sport (for the most part)! Nuala and Bran were excited about it, though. I did tell him he could be my broom, instead. He went with the cat, for some reason.

MRrrow!! I know you've seen it, but really, can this be seen too often?

This is Bran post-haunted house at the embassy Halloween party...hence the vacant,
must-block-this-incident-from-my-memory-forever expression on his face. We were terrible parents and took our 2-yr olds inside. Bran cried basically from the beginning, Nuala not until a head sticking out of a box came alive and scared the living daylights out of her. Bran and I were ahead of her and Z and when I heard her shrieks...oh wow...they were great! What every haunted house-creator is going for. Probably not from a two-year old, but still... Am I horrible for saying so? Don't answer that...but I had to laugh at my poor little girl. She was just so surprised!! Wow, I do sound like a horrible mother... And the whole blocking-from-the-memory thing didn't work -- they've talked quite a bit about the haunted house since then, but they don't seem adversely affected. At least they haven't manifested it yet. Yeah, it was pretty fascinating stuff. (Note: We didn't take them in the haunted house at the next party we went to, the Church party. We
do learn, occasionally...)

Then, on Halloween night, we went to the church Halloween party. The missionaries really got into it; they had great homemade costumes! Oddly, Bran loved the two dressed up as knights. Their costumes were a tad cooler than Bran's, I'm not ashamed to say. And their swords were way bigger.

Nuala got her face painted. No longer just a fairy warrior, but a KITTY fairy warrior. Takin' after her daddy... It was serious stuff.

Elder Christensen with Bran and Nuala. He's pretty cool. He's one of "our" missionaries, in our little branch, and has been over a few times for dinner. He always sword fights N&B.

We had a cookie decorating get-together for a bunch of N&B's little friends the Sat before Halloween. It was pretty fun, but I think the kiddos had a better time just playing than decorating/baking cookies.

This is the Nordstrom family, from church. They're the other American family in our branch... he's in med school here. Their little Mia is 4, and such a sweetie. N&B really love her.

Bran really liked it when William's daddy helped him make cookies shaped like swords and grenades...so much cooler than ghosts and pumpkins!
Anyway, Happy Halloween!! We wanted N&B to go as She-Ra and He-Man...they've been watching several episodes lately. Nuala was totally into going as She-Ra, until she saw a picture of a little girl dressed as a fairy. Then she HAD to have wings along with her battle gear. Bran never planned on He-Man. He's been faithful to the knight idea from the get-go. So, our days of dictating costumes are over apparently (unless you're Z, then I still have some power).
(The title...who gets the title? Come on sibs, one of you remembers...)
AND, Happy 36th Anniversary, Mom & Dad! We love you!!

ha ha ha! I love the title! Good times. Love, love, love that Zac went as a cat. Good thing you clarified that he only dressed up as that because you wanted him to ;)...I'm sure he was SO disappointed about the lack of a leotard. Cute witch costume, Fiona. Bran and Nuala are just too cute! I love their costumes, Nuala is so cute, combining her girly-ness with her tough warrior-ness. What cuties!(Hmm, how many more times can I use the word 'cute' in this post?) I'm glad the haunted house hasn't seemed to have any lasting negative effects on poor N & B...I can definitely commiserate with them on the joy their mother gets from scaring the wits out of poor innocent little children...
What a fun Halloween! I love the battle fairy! And way impressed with those Elders costumes! ...and I'll keep my eyes open for a black leotard Zac's size... maybe cheetah print, he can upgrade for next year. :-)
Ahhh such fond memories! Nice title :0) You're a really cute witch, i love your hair! The picture with N's hand on Z's shoulder is so funny, I love her face, or the look I imagine on her face. What fun missionaries! and we made cookies too, but I ran out of white flour, so they were half whole wheat. Not quite as yummy, the kids didn't seem to notice though. They were gone pretty quick. That was pretty sad about the haunted house, poor kids, but I'm sure they'll recover... with years and years of therapy... No, they're tough. Oh those are such pretty wings on Nuala. We've been through a couple of pairs.
I love it! I like how Nuala's costume was ever changing and girly and NOT girly at the same time and I think it is absolutely hilarious that Zac was a kitty. I do think it would have been funny if he was your broom though, Fiona. You'd have somewhere to sit down whenever you got tired.
Zac as a "sexy cat"...now I've seen it all. You're a good sport. Great pictures of what looked like a very fun Halloween!

Way fun. I think you are awesome to have a cookie decorating party. I bet they loved all of it. The costumes are great and I really loved Nuala's especially after she gets the kitty face paint to be like dad. I hope they did have fun at the haunted house. Don't feel too bad.
Wow!!! Zac??? I would have picked the broom...
You bring out the best in Zac, that's for sure. :) Your kids are so cute! I love that Nuala was a fairy-kinight or whatever you called it. :) And, you make a great witch! haha I don't mean anything bad by that... Happy Halloween!
Hahaha...you're not bad parents. Think of it as something you can draw on in future months when you're trying to get N&B to realize why they can't do something you think is moderately dangerous. "You don't want to end up like that guy whose head was in a box in the haunted house, do you???" ;o)
Oh, Zac...I'll be kind and just skip commenting. ;o)
Um...it must be that my memory is going in my old age, but I'm not getting the title. I thought about just pretending I got it and laughing and saying "Great title!" but I can't lie (no comments from the peanut gallery!)...I have no idea what it's from. *blush* Remind me?
Oh! Meant to also say how CUTE the twins are! They are so adorable as a fairy warrior and knight. :o) Rowan is looking over my shoulder and keeps making me go back to the sword pics. He was indignant that Bran didn't have the sword in the first pics...we had to talk about equity in sword wielding and how girls can have swords, too. ;o) He's sad he doesn't have a cool sword too, though. He keeps asking "But where's MY sword?" as if the answer will change if he asks every two minutes. Apparently, his wooden sword isn't good enough now, LOL. Tara and I saw those NERF swords at Walmart last week...we thought they'd be good birthday/Christmas gifts, but obviously you already have one, LOL. :o)
Isn't Halloween so much fun? Your costumes were great. I don't know how you forced Z into that costume but hats off to ya!
Yeah, Z's a good sport :) I'll keep him! Aislinn, the title is from that Mickey Mouse haunted house book that we had when we were kids...I think it was on tape, too? And the ghosts said, "Gooooo away!" But we always thought it sounded like "wooo away" But I guess I shouldn't expect you to remember, I mean, we all know how your memory is starting to...well, you know...you're not as YOUNG as you used to be ;)
And the swords! We have 4 foam swords, 3 wooden ones, 2 plastic ones, 2 maces, a battle ax, bow and arrows, and miscellaneous other weapons. No shortage around here... Wow, we sound violent. Um, we do have a "we only hit (imaginary) monsters, ogres, etc. with the sword," rule, but sometimes B gets carried away. I mean, they fight each other/other people with the foam swords, but with the more painful ones...
THIS IS MOM ...
I loved all the pictures and could almost immerse myself in all the action!!! I like the nice little boots ... N's red/black, and B's green ones. I don't see anything wrong with a male kitty cat ... there are lots of them around here :) ...though I've never seen such a cute one :) Nice orange hair Fiona ... your face didn't look very "witchy" though... bet N&B had fun seeing their parents dressed like that ... I caught such a "look" on N's face in one of the pics. Ooh, the haunted house, it must've been quite a surprise to them indeed ... I am not surprised you let them go thru, but at least you escorted them! The missionary knights have great costumes; good thing they had something to do for the past several Pdays. Loved the mess at the cookie-making event, and glad I wasn't in charge of cleaning up ... the spilled flour, etc... but it looked like a fun memory making activity. Thanks for sharing with us... Love, Mom (Dad too) xox
Nuala is SOOOOO creative:) Love it!
