Lucky us! We have nut trees! (And a pear tree, with the sweetest smelling pears BUT...they aren't edible. Is there something special we need to do? They're soooo hard, even after letting them sit for a while. I am pear-impaired. haha.) But the nuts are good! When we got here at the end of summer, our hazelnut trees were obliging us (there's Nuala above with some of them), and now the walnut trees are. I love walnuts.Sunday, October 25, 2009
Nuts!

With the broom handle! That's amazing aim, especially for a two-year-old! Look at all those nuts! What a nice garden and gardener :0) I love N's face in the table/nut/princess dress picture, so cute!
More reasons I am jealous of you:
1. You have trees
2. You have trees with nuts
3. You have a gardner
4. You have a big window that shows what a beautiful backyard you have....hence the gardner, I suppose.
I must visit this Bulgaria place someday :)
Awesome! Sounds yummy. I think Mom might have some ideas about what to do with hard pears...those twins are so cute! Impressive that Bran can crack those walnuts with a broom!
Yum, that is wonderful! I love walnuts and hazelnuts too. You have a nice gardener! We only have pecan trees, and I LOVE pecans too, but our squirrels usually get to them b4 we do. Your pears sound like our pears... Do you remember, Fiona, we'd pick them and let them sit in a paper bag for several days ... then they'd be softer. We juiced them too ... remember what a nice laxative effect the fresh pear juice had FIONA!? Actually, I like to pluck one from the tree while I'm watering in the back yard, wash it off with the hose, and eat it... even tho' it's hard, it's so juicy and good-tasting. Good job, Bran, on thinkin' up ways to open the walnuts ... I'd keep outa the way of the broom if I was there :) Nice pics of our favourite twins :) Love you, Mom (Dad too) xox
I love plain walnuts. Soo many good memories associated with walnuts and my grandma. Every year before my grandma would visit, my dad and I would go around town and gather huge bags full for her to crack on the porch. We'd have a whole freezer full of cracked walnuts. Plus their super wrinkley shells always reminded me of how my grandma looked to me. I guess it's what happens when you work in farm fields your whole life. How luck you are to have a tree in your backyard.
Yum, I love nuts! I'm so sorry about your friend (last post). That is just terrible.
I am so sorry about your friend too. It is so nice to know that death is not the end. I know that families are forever and I so look forward to meeting mine someday. I would love to call Delila(talk radio host who plays love songs) and tell her how much I miss my husband. hehe. The nut trees are so cool.
Oh yeah, I meant to add that I absolutely love Nuala's expression in that pic of her on the table!
Yum, walnuts! I have never had nuts straight from a nut tree. I know that they come from trees, but I have always gotten them at the store.
Bran does have a good aim. I would not try that as I would definitely make dents in the floor!
That is so cool that you have not one, but TWO nut trees! I am pear-impaired too, sorry I can't offer any wonderful advice on that front. That Bran is amazing! What a strong and creative boy!
I was just reading your blog again while showing him pics of his beloved Nuala... Could those pears be the kind that don't get soft? Some pears are meant to be crunchy. I bought some pears once that were this type and tried to soften them and they got all moldy before they became soft. So, maybe you should try them.
Bran and Zac are right, walnuts aren't that good. I mean compared to all the other nuts, come on!!! But for the price of being in the backyard, place on your door step, I would eat them.
Bran rulz, I'm not sure I could break open nuts with a broom, that is really cool.
