Piriápolis

This week is Semana Santa, or Holy Week, and Uruguay takes full advantage of this last holiday before winter sets in. Zachariah had today and also will have tomorrow off, so we headed to a "real" beach after breakfast this morning. Piriápolis is about an hour away from us, and WOW! I'd forgotten that a beach can be clean and the water can be blue. I don't think the babies recognized it for a beach, in fact, since Z and I weren't dogging their every step and swooping them up every minute or two to avoid fish carcasses or jellyfish or random trash. We love our nice, close beach (keyword is "close") but Piriapolis (actually, we hit the Punta Colorada beach) was just gorgeous.

First we drove up Cerro San Antonio (Imagine that! Named after that wonderful city in Texas! ;) and admired the view.

Then we headed for the main event: Beach! The one we picked was not too crowded, nice and clean, and the water was super refreshing! It actually had a bit of a drop-off, so the waves crashed in pretty loud and hard. Nuala loved them. That girl is fearless, I tell you! Even when I accidentally didn't pick her up quite high enough and a big ol' wave crashed into her face, she just sputtered and laughed. Bran was a little nervous at first because they were so loud but then he enjoyed himself more. Zachariah and I each took a turn sin (without) babies and got to frolic and bodysurf in the cool BLUE water. The color of our beach water is usually "not-exactly-blue."

Then the babies rested.

Two seconds later, they were recharged.

Bran wandered off to watch some sandboarders, and then stole their volleyball. They let him play with it until we left, how nice!

Later, Nuala found two, that's right, TWO, orange soda caps to play with. She is one lucky girl. I think she even forgot about the tumble she took up on the Cerro that left her with some nice little bruises and a cut on her forehead. Someday she'll learn to navigate rocky hills...poor baby!
It was it hard to leave that beach, we had such a great time! The kiddos were really good on the drive home, Bran promptly fell asleep and Nuala read to herself almost the whole way back. Nothing sweeter than happy babble-talk. And happy woofs. You have to woof when you see the doggy picture, of course. Definitely a good day.

What cute beach babies! did they actually take a little nap like that? How funny! I want to go to the beach again (a nice clean one not the other one you like to go too). N is going to be one crazy girl as she gets older, not afraid of anything! She is the one that is going to talk B into doing stuff that gets them in trouble. Do they go 'woof' when they see my dogs? you do show them my dogs right? 'woof' 'woof'!!!!

(sidenote: reminds me of the movie 'Home Alone' "Buzz your girlfriend, woof!")lol

Hey Fiona and Zach,
I was going through emails and found the email you sent announcing babies and I thought "hmnn, they moved--wonder if this is active" and tada--Uruguay. Cool! What beautiful babies. Glad you are having a great experience. Hey, I got married in December--yup! Life's good. Janelle
