Bran has really taken to climbing on things, stairs are not enough. He and Nuala have been cruising around using a laundry basket as a walker, and this morning they flipped it upside down. Bran pushed it over to the fireplace, which is surrounded by a low shelf, right about chest-level with the babies. He then figured out he could climb up on the laundry basket and make his way onto the super-safe granite shelf. Later, I caught him clambering up our two beanbag chairs (okay, pic is him in front of the beanbags, it's totally staged and he didn't want to be there, but I felt like including a visual...mommy whim), which are strategically plopped on top of each other covering up some tempting television wires. I watched him climb up and up until he could reach the windowsill. Maybe I should be discouraging all this? It's just so fun watching what he's capable of! Besides, I figure I should be doing some intelligence-gathering...I mean, I've got to know what I'm up against!
Nuala, too, deserves to be prepared...just before naptime, the two of them were over by the fridge; he was standing there, she was in crawl-mode beside him. He looked at her, and I could see the wheels turning. Sure enough, up comes his little foot! Over and over he tried to plant it on her back! Up it would come, down it would go to regain balance...up again...back down...She didn't appreciate it much, and finally got out of step-stool position, but I couldn't stop laughing! Just the way he sized her up...I could almost hear him thinking, "Another good use for sisters...if I can get up on her I can reach that fascinating magnet and pull down all the papers..." I just wonder how much time I have before they actually start cooperating on stuff like that! On the plus side, Zac and I really enjoy rock climbing, so this bodes well for future family activities. Little kid climbing shoes are the cutest!!!

I think that is a great use for little sisters! Way to go bran, wish I had thought of that before...
It's SO fun to watch the wheels turn, isn't it? I always feel a little mean standing there watching how much they can do just to pull them down from whatever unsafe position they've achieved just as they achieve it. Ah, the duties of a mommy. ;o)
Way to go Bran and Nuala! Please keep your skills to yourselves when we see you next! LOL! ;o)
If you find them working on a cryptographic language together, you KNOW you're in trouble. The collaboration will never cease...
Oh man the memories of climbin kids! One morning as I took a shower 2 yr old Sam used a long mirror for a ladder to get onto my bed which he then jumped up and down on and then proceeded to swing from the curtains and broke the cheesy metal rod they hung from. He then climbed down and decided to help me sew my dress on the sewing machine and used the scissors to cut it up. They are quite fast those little rascals! Have fun! The rock climbing idea is fantastic. My kids LOVE rock climbing.
I love it! How fun to watch them grow and think! I am thinking that you need to make your camera a part of your daily outfit, you know wear it around your neck all day so you can easily take pictures, I would love to see a picture of Bran trying to use Nuala as a stepstool!
Like Julie said I've heard on the news some twins have their own language! Watch out!
Just Wait untill you come into the kitchen and find one standing on the counter with a knife in hand. Now its Mathias daily goal to get on the counter. Anything he can use is fair game. The joys of being a parent.
