Happy 30th Bday, Zac!

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you,
happy birthday dear Za-ac, happy birthday to you!

Today is Zachariah's 30th birthday, he's been soooo excited, it's all he could talk about for the past couple of years in fact! Let's see...what to say about someone as special as Z...I've known him for 8 years now (and 1 month, technically). Eight years ago today, in fact, we weren't quite officially dating, and I brought him some special coookies for his 22nd birthday. No, not those type of special cookies, this was BYU, remember? Haha...okay, not funny. Those birthday cookies were actually made by my sister, and I was at her place typing a paper and remembered it was the bday of "this guy who likes me", so she let me take him a plateful. And that plate of cookies cinched the deal, he was in love. The rest is history. Okay, that's not really true, either, but everything worked out one way or another and now, 8 years later, I'm married to a wonderful 30-year-old, who is still 22 (sometimes 14, or maybe 17) at heart.

He's such an amazing daddy, and he does soooo much for me. I know this will come as a shock to most of you, but I am lazy. Yes, lazy. Zachariah is not, he's always getting stuff done around the house. I'll wake up from napping on a Saturday morning, and he'll have a pile of emptied boxes to take out, or he'll have tried to clean the kitchen, or he'll have planted a garden. He loves to camp, hike, rockclimb, geocache, and scuba dive and is really good at all that stuff. He's super handy and can fix cars and all sorts of things. He's also pretty talented at building, and even finished our basement back in VA all by himself. (Well, with my help, of course...someone had to spackle and paint, it's not all that fancy plumbing-framing-drywalling-wiring stuff!) He's also a great sport when it comes to doing things that I want to do, like play basketball, or go shopping. He is terrific at making up his mind about something and doing it -- he doesn't just talk about it, he does it. And he helps people, and has a wonderful, strong testimony. And he's so adventurous, I love that! Like for our first Christmas married we bought super cheap tix to Europe (super cheap because it's freezing there in Dec) and drove around for 10 days. We only spent 3 nights in hotels/hostels (did I mention how extremely frugal he is?), all the others bundled up sleeping in the VW Golf we rented. Even the night that I had a horrible fever. That was a very long night, but hey, what an adventure! We only showered the 3 times and changed clothes maybe 4 times. Fun stuff. And, he is suuuuuch a good cook! Seriously. Yummmm...curry...

So, here's to your first 30 years, Z, and to the eternities I have to celebrate with you. Wow. In another lifetime, you will be 60. Now that's old. (Unless you who are reading this happen to be 60ish, then, haha, joking! ;) Happy birthday, Zachariah, I love you!!

Wow! 30! That's a big one! So has Zac been talking about it for a couple years in an excited way or a despairing one? That was an interesting looking animal he was feeding.

Well I'm so old I remember when Zac was born! I remember when his mom tried to get him to eat cold oatmeal three days old and he spit it in her face! LOL! I had a silky sweatshirt thing that he loved and he would grab me and snuggle his face in it when I wore it. When his mom put him to bed he'd run away to grandma's house. He was 2. He took a butterknife to the wall sockets and took there covers off and was fixing it. He stole carburetors from uncle dan for his workshop. He put flour or sugar in grandma's chainsaw to make it run. Life with Zac was always an adventure! He also had a baby doll that he dragged everywhere! Oh the tales that I could tell...ok Zac... I'll stop for now. I love you tons Birthday boy!

Happy Birthday Zac! I love the way you write about him Fiona, he sounds like an amazing guy (of course I have the most amazing). I also love how he might be reading this when he's sixty! Happy 60th B-day too!

Hi F&Z&N&B.....yes, we love him too. He is definitely our most favourite red-headed son-in-law. We enjoyed the tribute from Fiona, and Aunt Rochelle....it's always nice to have those early secrets aired on a blog...! :) and I've seen pics of when he was little; he was a very cute little boy of course:) The pic with the 30th b'day cake is cute; it looks like it "might" be a real downhome type of homemade cake (?) See, Fiona loves to cook too....great cake! Did you let the twins dig their little hands into the cake (after you had a piece)? Or are you waiting till Dec 19 for that experience?..... we all love you..... Mom (and Dad too) xox

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZAC!!!
Well, since i wasn't around when you were born, i got to thinking about what you were like when i was a kid. The only thing i remember was when you and Brad and Steve would hang out together in the summer and say cool things like, "That's Wicked!", "Evil" or something to that effect...anyways, I always thought you were pretty bad to the bone. :) Happy Birthday.
Love your Cousin, Robyn

Happy birthday, Zac! Nice tribute, Fiona. ;o) Glad my cookies helped your romance in some small way, LOL! Declan was looking at the pictures with me and when we got to the one of Zac feeding the ???yak??? Declan pointed at Zac and said "There's Uncle Zac!" Then he pointed at the animal and said "And there's Auntie Fiona!" Bwahahahahaha! (See, I wouldn't have had to post that on your blog if your phone ever worked...)

Thanks everyone!! And since several people asked... that is a highland cow from the Scottish highlands, or as they say in Scotland a highlean coo. Though we found that particular cow somewhere in Northern Germany on a drive from Berlin to Cologne. And he looks nothing like my beautiful Fiona.
