More Exploring

We had a fun Labor Day weekend. On Saturday we went to El Cerro (the Hill), to see the fortress perched up above Montevideo. It was a neat little place, all white, with tons of cannons (of course...), and an interesting little museum inside.

Sunday was church, of course, then on Monday we headed out of Montevideo, just driving somewhat eastward to see what we could see (...Is anyone else singing The Bear Went Over the Mountain right now?).

We decided we could drive until we hit a certain point on our gas meter thing, and that happened at a little coastal town called Floresta. We drove down the shore road, rumbled over some escaping sand dunes and enjoyed the view of the deserted beach. It had a slight feel of a ghost town, being wintertime, but we finally found an open restaurant and stopped for lunch.

Nuala got the coolest, tallest high chair ever, and enjoyed her vantage point immensely. The height also made it easier to flirt outrageously with our friendly waiter, the little rascal. Bran got stuck on Daddy's lap, though he did get a turn in Nuala's chair at the end. He did not flirt. The wobbly high chair didn't have a seat belt, so both kiddos discovered the joy of standing up and immediately being swooped out by Mommy.

As we were waiting for our food, an older couple who had just finished eating came over to ooh and ahh over the twins. They were so nice! They were from Paraguay and were spending some time at their home in Floresta. They must be pretty well off, as they have a home in Asuncion, as well as a large ranch outside Asuncion, and then their home in Floresta. We got quite the insistent invitation to come and visit them, either in Floresta or at one of their places in Paraguay. Luis and Josefina...so nice! Cute babies can be quite the in, though perhaps Zachariah's pretty red hair would have brought them over anyway ;)

Sounds like you had a fun weekend! I think I need a visual on this 'high' highchair that is so tall that a baby can flirt with a waiter!!! Wow, that couple just invited you to both their houses? Are you gonna go?

I finally got to see the vidios!! they are so funny. and adorable. Wow what a fun 3 day weekend. dad and I went to whidbey island and hiked down to the beach with jack and Hershey. big mistake i fogot you can't control jack when there is water around. He pulled so hard when we got to the beach I lost my grip on him and into the ocean he went. so then Dad and I spent a while trying to decide who got to wade into the freezing water to retrieve him. Dad threw rocks for a long time trying to get him in closer so I couls grabl him but jack knew th e tricvk and would back off when I tried to grab him. i ended up wading out after him. It took a while for my toes to thaw out! Love Mom

Hi there.....thanks for sharing all that .... we just now read your last two blog entries (we are at a motel in Salinas, Calif...leaving for church in a bit, and then about 5 hours to LA...first stop at Charite's I think)... your descriptions sound so fun... it was so nice of that couple to issue the invits to you. You will surely enjoy your strolls and drives a lot with the more pleasant weather arriving... I can just imagine the little ones standing up in the chair...of course, that is what babies love...to keep you on your toes ... OUR babies were always good at that type of stuff! Will talk to you soon.... Love, Mom (and Dad too) xox
