A Bit of Our Neighborhood

This picture was taken while driving down...or up...the Rambla, the street that runs along the beach from our neighborhood into Montevideo. I think it's 13 or so miles long, and on nice days, especially come summertime we hear, the wide sidewalk is just filled with people walking, biking, jogging, just enjoying the outdoors. There are fresh fish markets, and little restaurants along it, too. We haven't walked it much, yet, since it's been chilly overall, but it sure is pretty! Z drives it to work everyday, and on nice days says everyone drives soooo slowly because they're all enjoying the view. Rainy days, not so much.

Here's the Montevideo temple. It's right next door to our church meetinghouse. We haven't been yet, hopefully soon! We just need to get a sitter...

This last photo is taken on the way back from our little grocery store that's a couple of blocks from our house. The cool looking building waaaay in the back is the top of our neighborhood casino. It looked pretty neat in the fog, but the picture doesn't quite portray it right. Just imagine it closer up, and mistier. In the left of the photo there's a little white hut-thing. That's a security stand, they're peppered throughout Carrasco (the area we live in). We actually have one right across the street from us. It gives me incentive to be up and dressed earlier than usual (the dressed part, I'm up early enough thanks to two small people, but pjs serve me well) and have our front blinds open so he doesn't think I'm a lazy American. Is that weird? Good, I didn't think so...

You a lazy american???lol, you are too funny! That's awesome that everyone drives slower to enjoy the view (does that bug Z?) Question for you, does everyone drive little cars? in the photo it looked like a lot of small cars to me.

And it just looks and sounds like a great place to be living for awhile!

We don't live in a gated community, just in a nicer neighborhood. There are little security "huts" around and everyone pays them like $40 a month to watch your house.... it doesn't bug me that everyone drives slower, I get to enjoy the view also. Either way my commute is only 12-15 minutes. Yes, everyone drives small cars, Fiona just can't wait for the ol' minivan to get here.

Way fun. I agree with Z. I think the drive would be awesome and I think it is hilarious that you are worried about being lazy when I know very well that you are in the middle of everything going on in Montevideo as usual.

I am so jealous you are so close to the temple. That is a dream of mine, just because I'm lazy.
