Merry Christmas everyone! We're very blessed to have our little Nuala and Bran, and wanted to post a little update:
Wow. We got home from the hospital Saturday afternoon, and by that night were wishing we were back there. What happened to our little babies who only cried occasionally and were quickly and easily satisfied? We finally understood what people meant when they came to visit and would knowingly say, "Wait till you get home..."
Things took a downhill turn pretty much right away when feeding time came around about an hour after we got the little ones home. Right now, I'm pretty low on milk, so we have to supplement the babies with formula. As I was fixing Nuala up, Zac was getting the formula and feeding tube ready (we nurse them, and slip a little tube into the corner of the babies' mouth, so they continue learning to nurse and triggering my milk, but still get enough to eat) and as he leaned over our little girl, dumped the entire full bottle down her back...and on me...and the couch. Oh well, at least it was free formula from the hospital! (No use crying over spilt milk, ha ha...if it had been pumped breast milk, I definitely would have cried.) Also, they started peeing on everything! as soon as a diaper came off, in the 30 seconds it takes to replace it, Bran would spray a parabolic stream into the air or Nuala would decide she had to go again. NEVER happened at the hospital. Very strange. That night was the worst night ever! I think we just had our expectations too high, but, really, half an hour of sleep does seem a bit on the low side. Again, even the night before, we got about 5-6 hours in snatches. Of course, that was in the hospital.
Bran decided to not want to nurse, even though he was the champion latcher (in the hospital). The formula was hurting his tummy, everyone was frustrated. We didn't have a breast pump yet, so the next morning Zac ran to Babies R Us to buy one. Yeah, it was Sunday, and we normally don't shop, etc. on the Sabbath, but this was kind of an emergency. He got there a couple of minutes before it opened and joined a line of other new fathers waiting anxiously to rush inside and purchase whatever essential had been overlooked. Oh, and one new mom. Z said she was walking very slowly. Poor thing was probably barely out of the hospital and, like us, was experiencing the "Ha, ha tricked you!" baby syndrome.
Anyway, Sunday night was better, we think mostly because we knew what to expect. Also, it was Christmas Eve, so of course running into Santa Claus was a treat and that wouldn't have happened if not for the twins keeping us up!

I love it when they decide they have to go once the diaper is off. Clara's favorite trick is, right after we've cleaned up a messy diaper, to decide that there's a little bit more (insert Kristin, "A little bit more. Sheesh.") inside that she just has to push out at that exact moment.
Welcome home --- and let the sleep deprivation begin! Mika and I feel your pain.
The breast pump's for FIONA, Zachariah!
No wonder we were'nt getting any milk ~ Z
