This last week winter has really set in with temperatures as low as the high 'teens. For some reason the cats don't want to spend very much time outside anymore... So Mushi has taken to walking around looking for new places to hide and yowling for no reason every so often. Just as boredom threatens to drive her mad she circles back to the living room and takes a hit off the catnip plant.
After chewing on the poor plant for a few minutes she stops, sits back, eyes glazed over staring at nothing... boredom forgotten. You often hear that catnip is like crack for cats, I don't know how true that is but Mushi and Finnegan are definitely addicted.
Recently the plant almost died because of continued abuse from both the cats, but with a little tlc it began to sprout again. It seems that the fresh sprouts are the best. With the new shoots all the cats have to do is lick the plant for a while, no chewing required. Maybe they have more of whatever it is that gives cats a buzz?

Y'all are getting your cats high? I guess that's one way to provide some entertainment for yourselves! Well, take care.
When we had cats, we loved to use a laser pointer to play with them. We got them to jump really high while they chased the little red dot.
yeah, that's always good for a laugh!
Doesn't look like it's getting them high exactly. Well maybe sorta.
"Catnip contains nepetalactone, a terpene, that is thought to mimic feline sex pheromones" (wikipedia)
In other good news:
"Cat owners do not need to worry about allowing their cats access to catnip because there are, for the most part, no negative side effects to doing so."
Enlightening, Evan, as usual :) Glad to know we aren't killing brain cells or deadening kitty senses or anything...
